Job Description for Young Families Co-ordinator at St. Mary's Fetcham    
Position: Young Families co-ordinator
Accountable to: The Rector
Job Purpose: To lead others in implementing the St. Mary's mission statement amongst families with young children (the main focus being on families with children under 7) namely: "We aim to be a growing community of Christian people who desire to be mature disciples, committed church family members, effective witnesses and caring neighbours"

Main responsibilites:
  • The primary responsibility is to provide opportunities for families and individuals to develop their relationship with God (the cure of souls).
  • To identify people with leadership potential and to train and nurture new adult leaders for ministry to families.
  • To be responsible for the provision of suitable worship opportunities for young children and their families in liaison with the Rector. This includes attending these services regularly.
  • To establish a baptism preparation team who will offer ongoing pastoral care to young families.
  • To support and work with the leaders of Footprints, Horizon and Holiday Club.
  • To establish a programme of events to attract young families at different stages (e.g parenting courses, social events).
  • To promote other activities provided by St. Mary's (e.g.Welcome Groups, Junior Church, Y,Y Wednesday, Men's Group etc).
  • To liaise with other local churches and agencies working with 0-7's and their families.
  • To improve our outreach to those outside the church and to create a welcoming environment.
  • To undertake relevant training when opportunities arise.
  • To work closely with the Rector and other members of the St. Mary's team.
  • To attend regular supervision meetings with the Rector and other team meetings.

Terms and conditions:
  • The role will be subject to a 3 month probationary period and will have an annual review.
  • Remuneration package in the region of £18,000 pro rata.
  • Job related expenses, for example telephone, computer line work, travel and course fees as agreed by the Rector.
  • Hours - Flexible; Up to 20hrs per week, to be discussed with candidates.
  • Working from home for administrative aspects of the role would be an advantage.
  • The appointment will be subject to the results of a CRB check.
Experience and Qualifications:
No formal qualifications are required, however, experience of working within a team, working with young children, managing self and strong communication skills are preferred. As this is a new role, experience of projects and change management would be beneficial.
